Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, introspection and prayer for Muslims, the followers of Islam. It is celebrated as the month during which Muhammad received the initial revelations of the Quran, the holy book for Muslims. Fasting is one of the five fundamental principles of Islam (Resource).

The Ramadan fasting involves stopping eating and drinking from dawn to sunset. Practitioners can engage in all these acts once fasting is broken and restart fasting the next dawn. The cycle continues for a whole month. (Resource)

WVU encourages faculty and instructors to be as flexible as possible for students observing Ramadan, including offering alternate examination times. Students are encouraged to communicate directly with their instructors as soon as possible to explore whether scheduling an alternate exam time is possible.
