STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At least 60,000 children and teens will be able to receive book kits from the New York Public Library (NYPL) to help stay engaged during the summer season.
The kits will be available at all NYPL branch locations starting on Monday.
6 DIFFERENT KITS
The following is a list of the different kits and their contents being offered by the NYPL. There is a limit of one kit per child.
— Babies and toddlers: NYPL tote bag containing NYPL’s “ABC Read with ME in NYC” board book and a bilingual early literacy tip sheet for parents.
— Pre-K through Grade 1: A red drawstring bag, which contains two free books; NYPL’s Summer Learning 2021 Welcome Kit, and the NYPL After School Activity Guide for Grades K-3.
— Grades 2-3: A red drawstring bag with two free books; NYPL’s Summer Learning 2021 Welcome Kit, and the NYPL After School Activity Guide for Grades K-3.
— Grades 4-5: Red drawstring bag, which contains one free book; NYPL’s Summer Learning 2021 Welcome Kit, and the NYPL After School Activity Guide for Grades 4-6.
— Middle School (Grades 6-8): A red drawstring with one free book; a special NYPL bookmark, one container of Play-Doh, and a stress ball.
— High School (Grades 9-12): Includes a red drawstring bag with one free book; a special NYPL bookmark; one pot of Play-Doh, and a stress ball.
The goal of the giveaway is to keep children and teens engaged in educational activities throughout the summer.
In addition to the giveaway, the NYPL is offering a virtual summer camp, a Summer Learning reading challenge, take-home activities and other programs.
