Overdose deaths, fueled by nonmedical use of opioids, have reached epidemic proportions. In fact, this crisis has been declared a public health emergency.

The crisis is impacting various demographic groups within New York State and across the country. Brett Harris, DrPH, a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University at Albany School of Public Health, is conducting a survey of SBHC Medical Directors’ and clinicians’ attitudes, perceptions, and practices regarding substance use (alcohol and drugs) and opioid overdose prevention and intervention.

If you are a clinician or a medical director, please share your opinions about adolescent substance use and opioid use and how you see your role as an SBHC provider in responding to the opioid crisis. At the end of the survey, you will be given the opportunity to request information on available prevention and early intervention training and resources. Once the project is complete, you will receive a summary of the results.

This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary. Your individual data collected from the survey will not be shared with the DOH SBHC Program.

Medical Directors – please forward the email invitation to a nurse practitioner or physician assistant at each of your SBHCs that serve middle and/or high school students. Here is a link to the survey.

We appreciate any time and effort you take in assisting us to better understand how SBHCs may be utilized to prevent opioid misuse and overdose in adolescent and young adult populations. Please email Dr. Harris at bharris@albany.edu if you have any questions about the survey.
